About

A study by the CDC showed that 1 in 5 adults in the US lives with chronic pain at some stage in  life. Unfortunately, pain comes in many forms – from a dull, constant ache to sharp, stabbing pain. It can come on suddenly or gradually and last for days, weeks, months, or even years. This pain can come from an injury/trauma, a medical condition, musculoskeletal dysfunction, toxicity, or everyday wear and tear on the body.

Living with constant pain takes a physical toll and can significantly impact your mental health, and it can cause anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. The good news is that there are several things you can do to help manage and cure your pain that does not involve medication.

Dr.Scott Maymon, ND, MPH, and Dr.Sarah Stone, ND, are here to help. We get to the root of your pain and treat the problem with non-invasive pain management treatments to help you get back to feeling your best. If you’re looking for treatments for pain management in Tempe, Gilbert and Chandler, AZ, or pain management in Phoenix, call (480)-427-0442 to schedule an appointment for a personalized, in-depth health assessment. We look forward to hearing from you!

Causes of Pain

There are many different causes of pain, varying from person to person. The body is just like a machine and constantly sends signals to the brain to tell us when something is not quite right. Pain is usually a sign that something is wrong and is the body’s way of trying to protect us.

There are two main types of pain – acute and chronic. Acute pain comes on suddenly and is usually short-lived. Chronic pain is ongoing severe pain that lasts for more than three months and can be caused by many different factors. It is often more complex to treat than acute pain and can significantly impact your quality of life.

There are many different causes and types of both acute and chronic pain, such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Injury or trauma
  • Lower back pain
  • Joint pain: knee pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, etc.
  • Neck pain
  • Neuropathy
  • Sciatica

Pain Points

Tracking your pain can help us determine what is causing it, and how to treat it. Keep a pain journal or use a pain tracking app to record when your pain is at its worst. Record what you were doing when the pain started and anything else that might be relevant. This can help you identify possible triggers and make lifestyle changes to help reduce your pain.

It can be challenging to pinpoint the exact location of your pain since pain signals can travel from the source of the pain to other parts of the body. Tracking your pain over time allows us to better understand where the pain is coming from.

Common pain points include:

  • Back
  • Head
  • Neck
  • Knees
  • Shoulders

Pain Management Treatments

There are a number of different medical treatments available, the most invasive and common being medication and surgery. These come with their many risks and side effects. Surgery is an invasive procedure that can sometimes make the pain worse, and side effects from pain medications can be just as bad as the pain itself. Equally concerning is the risk of becoming addicted to the pain medication.

This is why more and more people are turning to alternative, natural pain treatments.  They are  safe, effective, and designed to resolve the source of pain. At Pure Body Health, we offer many effective, non-invasive pain management treatments that can help you get back to feeling your best without the risks associated with medication or surgery.

Regenerative Injections

Regenerative injections are an alternative pain management treatment that can help relieve pain from joint conditions, athletic injuries, nerve damage, and more. Regenerative injections help your body heal damaged tissues, restoring functions lost due to aging, injury, or disease. These therapies help the body replace or repair damaged and poorly functioning cells by improving circulation to the treatment site and stimulating the natural healing response.  Often, this can be a cure for pain if the insulting factors and stressors are removed or avoided.

We offer several different types of regenerative injections, including:

  • Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
  • Prolozone
  • Biological allograft
  • Prolotherapy
  • Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT)

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a pain treatment that uses low-level lasers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to promote circulation, improve cellular communication, stimulate tissue regeneration, and induce a healing response. LLLT is a non-invasive, pain-free treatment that can effectively target muscles and tissues to promote natural healing.

During treatment, we place a small device over the target area that emits unique wavelengths of light at different frequencies. The low-level laser light penetrates the tissue without heating or damaging the skin, causing cells to respond with a series of beneficial reactions that can help reduce pain and inflammation, and promote healing.

Unlike traditional lasers that use higher watts, our low-level lasers use between 5 and 500 milliwatts. Because of this low wattage, LLLT does not burn the skin or produce heat, pain, or scarring.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) is a pain management treatment that uses magnetic fields to stimulate healing and pain relief. PEMF therapy is based on the principle that all cells in the body have an electromagnetic field that can be used to promote healing in the body.

PEMF therapy works by emitting Earth-based low-frequency magnetic pulses that penetrate the skin and stimulate cells to promote healing. This effective treatment has several positive effects, such as boosting cellular metabolism. This helps blood cells regenerate, improves circulation, improves oxygen levels, and allows the nervous system to relax.

Other benefits include:

  • Relief from pain
  • Improved sleep
  • Better circulation
  • Nerve regeneration
  • Wound healing
  • Stronger bones
  • Boosted immunity

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic sound waves to stimulate healing and pain relief. Shockwave therapy is based on the principle that acoustic pulses can help break down calcified tissue, promote blood flow, and stimulate the release of growth factors, helping to repair and regenerate damaged tissue. As the acoustic pulse hits the target area, it creates microtrauma in the form of microcavitations within the tissue, and this microtrauma triggers the body to release growth factors and produce collagen for healing.

As this treatment has gained more comprehensive support, research, and development, we have implemented many of these applications, including:

  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs
  • Rotator cuff and other shoulder injuries
  • Cellulite
  • Neuropathy
  • Osteoporosis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s Disease
  • Vaginal rejuvenation

Frequently Asked Questions

Is shockwave therapy painful?

No, shockwave therapy is not painful. You may feel a brief sensation of pressure and vibration as the acoustic pulse hits the target area, but this should not be painful.

Is pulsed electromagnetic field therapy safe?

Yes, PEMF therapy is safe. The magnetic pulses used in this therapy are very low frequency/intensity and does not cause harm to the body.

How many LLLT treatments will I require?

The number of LLLT treatments required will vary depending on the condition being treated. In general, most conditions will require multiple treatments before seeing the desired effect and noticeable results.

Do you offer stem cell therapy?

No. True stem cell therapy in the US comes only from the patient as the donor, derived from either the bone marrow or fat, and this is something we do not offer. However, we have a wide range of highly effective regenerative injection therapies to suit your individual needs.
